“The reason why the universe is eternal is that it does not live for itself;
it gives life to others as it transforms.”

When the moving pictures stopped

I wasn´t prepared for an incident like this. Nobody was. (well some had at least the obligation to think about it, but this not the place for political debates) As a filmmaker, actor and director I am used to be in movement. The patterns I am used to think of, whether they are visual or acoustical, are bounded to time. Change is the central aspect of the expression. Suddenly all stood still. Projects, plans, perspectives cancelled. Forced to take a breath.
Sitting at my desk, scrolling through all the news, trying to process what is happening I got more and more nervous and impatient. This state of mind made me anxious and depressive. I had to get out. I stopped the irritating newsfeed and checked my options. The moving pictures stopped, stood still in immovable frames.
That´s it.
I took my photo camera and as the city was mostly closed I chose nature. So I started to walk around in the forest. I was looking into the sky and I took pictures. Now after a few months, I am grateful that I was able to find a way out and picked up this old passion again. It became a new satisfying field of expression and creativity.
The universal thought manifests itself in the matter. The matter reflects light and creates shadows which can be translated into a frame.
